hi,

double free or corruption!

can\'t reproduce, only happened once, don\'t have a core file, silly default setup doesn\'t dump cores.

#3: Re: Cube does not run under SL 4.1

by LinuxUser on 11/30/2005 06:18 in General Thread

kernowyon:

I tried your advice, and this also produces the glibc error:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (out): 0x08cb4b20 ***
Aborted

#4: Cube does not run under SL 4.1

by LinuxUser on 11/25/2005 18:59 in General Thread

OS: Scientific Linux 4.1 (a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 derivative).

http://www.scientificlinux.org

When I am trying to run Cube via ./cube_unix, I get an error:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption: [some_hexadecimal_number]

Since SL is a Red Hat EL4 derivative, I suppose this means that Cube also doesn't run on any Red Hat EL4 derivative such as CentOS, WhiteBox, etc.

Any ideas? Giving export MALLOC_CHECK=0 at the console before running Cube, doesn't seem to work.

#5: Re: DOUBLE FREE OR CORRUPTION

by D.plomat on 03/18/2005 09:31 in General Thread

The export has a "_" at the end:

export MALLOC_CHECK_=0

#6: DOUBLE FREE OR CORRUPTION

by Tsume1 on 03/16/2005 10:42 in General Thread

I get the error:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption: 0x0818ffb0 ***

As everyone else with this problem, I am ALSO running FC3.

Tried the export MALLOC_CHECK=0 fix, still doesn\'t work, same error.

Any ideas??

#7: Re: Can't start game in Fedora Core 3

by markdrew on 02/06/2005 22:21 in General Thread

That doesn't seem to have helped. I get the same message, but this time it's "invalid pointer: 0x082a05e0".

Also note that the error message I'm getting is slightly different than the discussion to which your referred (don't know if the difference is significant).

My message says "invalid pointer" while the others said "double free or corruption".

Thanks!

Mark

#8: Re: Can't start game in Fedora Core 3

by D.plomat on 02/06/2005 01:53 in General Thread

This has already been discussed but i had no feedback from first person reporting this (also using Fedora) so i don't know if the fix works.

http://www.cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_search&keywords=double+free+corruption&submit=+GO+

You should try the command:

export MALLOC_CHECK=0

before starting Cube.

(if it does, you can add it into the cube_unix script to avoid typing it everytime you want to start Cube... and of course report here if it works or not so i can add it into the FAQ ;)

#9: Already discussed

by D.plomat on 01/11/2005 13:09 in help

maybe solved (no feedback from original poster):

http://www.cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_search&keywords=double+free+corruption&submit=+GO+

#10: Re: double free or corruption

by D.plomat on 01/03/2005 10:00 in General Thread

It's an environment variable, so ppl having this problem can probably avoid it by just doing an:

export MALLOC_CHECK=1 (or 0)
before starting Cube (or add this into the cube_unix), normally there is no need to recompile.

BTW, forget about autoconf/automake/automess if you just want to compile Cube, it's very straightforward, you just
unzip the source.zip,
cd source/src
make
and voila :)

#11: Re: double free or corruption

by Ygarl on 01/02/2005 23:33 in General Thread

Umm... bit more googling has found the following info about this error on the Fedora website:

o The version of glibc provided with Fedora Core 2.92 Test 3 performs
additional internal sanity checks to prevent and detect data
corruption as early as possible. By default, should corruption be
detected, a message similar to the following will be displayed on
standard error (or logged via syslog if stderr is not open):

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption

By default, the program that generated this error will also be killed;
however, this (and whether or not an error message is generated) can
be controlled via the MALLOC_CHECK_ environment variable. The
following settings are supported:
o 0 -- Do not generate an error message, and do not kill the
program

o 1 -- Generate an error message, but do not kill the program

o 2 -- Do not generate an error message, but kill the program

o 3 -- Generate an error message and kill the program

So - where does that leave FC3 users? I don't have the knowledge to compile the C code myself (I'm afraid running aclocal, autoconf, configure, make and make install is my lot)...

Erm?

#12: Re: double free or corruption

by Ygarl on 01/02/2005 23:21 in General Thread

Ditto - on Fedora Core 3 as well...

Ever feel like there might be a prob with FC3?

Anyone have ideas?
Everywhere I check says thier particular programs have been made incorrectly and they had to change their code.

Which I really have no idea to do, of course...

#14: double free error

by theGerbil on 11/25/2004 00:20 in General Thread

Have just installed Cube from Linux Format DVD. Checked the SDL files ok .. ran using ./cube_unix and I receive the following error message.

glibc detected *** double free or corruption 0x08190c08 *** aborted

also the screen display blows right up and the mouse stops working. The only way out is to POPO.

Any guidance gratefully received.
