To make this easier on me, I would like everyone who has something in the offical package to send me a list of files that belong to you.

That's nice work. Still, since Sauer is a sourceforge project (and sourceforge requires an OSI license), it would make sense to license all the content under one of the more restrictive Creative Commons license - i.e. free edistribution but for non-commercial projects only, and attribution must be given to the original Sauerbraten project if Sauer is redistributed with the package, and no derivative works are to be made from the content.

we're not gonna have one global text file. Instead, each subdir inside packages (or subdir thereof) that represents work of a particular author should have readme files written by that author. Feel free to send me such readme files for inclusion.

the creative commons licenses are not OSI-compliant

>either the non-free files should be removed from the download,
>or relicensed if possible, or the data downloads should altogether be hosted somewhere else than on Sourceforge.

this does also affect the data in CVS, not only the downloads

wasda: I have already explained everything I wanted to you, and I am not going to repeat myself. Making this into a thread posting war doesn't help anyone.

To you, and everyone else who is interested in helping to clear up copyright issues on files: encourage authors of files, or directories of files to submit readme files to me for inclusion. For authors that are not reachable but we know the copyright level they wanted, if anyone wants to create a readme.txt with as much a propriate information as possible that is helpful too.

That is all.

Despite your previous attitude and the way you've addressed others on this forum everyone has pretty much been tolerating you today. Please stop posting the same thread over and over. To suggest that Aardapple has something to hide is ridiculous. Antagonistic remarks like this are really unecessary and turn people (at least me) off to whatever point you are trying to make. Everyone is tired of the recent flames.

This thread seems to address the same issue, just post your comments here, ok? This is Aard's site and forum. He has the right to manage it as he deems fit. We are guests here.

I have nothing to hide. Correction: I have you to hide if you don't stop playing ping-pong with me. You're welcome to stay on this forum, if you behave.

>Interesting. None of them?

at least not according to the official list:
http://opensource.org/licenses/

BUT:
"Content that cannot meet the OSI Open Source Definition, due to not being source code, must meet the spirit of the Open Source Definition."

i guess some of the CC-licenses meet the spirit:

Yes, absinth, this one definately is "in the spirit" :

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/deed.en_GB

goes well with the open source definition, I guess CC isn´t officially supported because you can restrict modification with it if you wish.

Look at tremolous, they used the above license for their content.

I am actually considering to license my stuff with this license. This may surprise you, but after sitting down to reflect a little, I´ve realized that after all what is the fuzz all about? I can´t really push my exclusive copyright through in this medium.

The only thing that´s really in my concern is that a good mod should differentiate from the official game imho, but I don´t think we can ever stop the "change two files, voila i pwn" guys, no matter how much we restrict stuff and pin down rights.(note wasda that it´s not aiming at you, after all you are willing to respect the wishes of the content creators. :)

Maybe a more community efford should be taken. We can politely (!) hint to such people that we don´t rate their "3 day whip up some stuff" mods very cool or creative, thus bringing back a feeling of real creativity and fun to this. (special thanks to mitaman for his post wich helped me to sit down and think about what i really want and do here)

And I think, if I decide this I might add a humble note asking people to consider using my stuff in ways I see fit and cool, without of course insinsting on it.

And after all how much harm is really done. A crap mod will not be played. Any sopo fans around? I doubt it. How many of you have launched it more than once.

I might have ridden a too high horse during the last few months, regarding my own rating of my stuff, but I come to see that after all, why should I care people making bad stuff out of mine, opposed to that I should rather feel good when people enhance or use my stuff for the sake of coolness.
I should just keep cool when someone makes my stuff ugly.

After all in this quarrel, let´s agree to disagree when appropriate, but treat each other fairly.

Special note to wasda: I have to agree with aard, stop the ping-pong please. We got your message. There definately is a need to get things clear concerning copyrights and I hope I can contribute to that.
