Cube-TC: ActionCube Public Release (v0.9)

by makkE on 11/04/2006 22:32, 128 messages, last message: 10/17/2007 02:19, 91365 views, last view: 03/29/2024 01:37

ActionCube is released !

After 2.5 years of silent spare time development we are proud to bring the first beta release to the public.
It´s a full feature, complete game, masterserver available.

ActionCube is a team-oriented total conversion of the cube engine, themed in a realistic looking environment (as much as it can get in cube of course). That´s just the theme though.
Gameplay is fast and arcade.

Visit our website:
http://action.cubers.net
for downloads and information.

We had lots of fun doing this, and we basically were noobs in our fields when we started.
We learned a lot, cursed a lot \o/´ed a lot, sweat a lot, kicked each others asses a lot; and now it´s finally done.
It was a great experience and we hope you´ll give it a try and have fun.

You might ask "Cube-mod? wtf?! Why not Cube2?"

When we started in July 2004, Sauerbraten was still labelled "for devs and adventurous mappers only".
When the first mature release of Sauerbraten was out a year later, we decided to stick with cube rather than forking off an uncomplete, early-stage Sauer-version.

A port of ActionCube to ActionBraten might be considered at some point in the future, when the Cube2-FPS has somewhat reached a final state.

Some brief info:

8 New Weapons:

Knife
Pistol
Akimbo Pistols (powerup)
Pumpgun
Submachine Gun
Assault Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Timeable HE Grenades

Gamemodes:

7 Multiplayer Gamemodes:

Team Deathmatch
Team Survivor
Capture the Flag
Deathmatch
Last Man Standing
Pistol Frenzy
Last swiss Standing

Bot Deathmatch Singleplayer

We´re looking forward to your feedback.

Mac bins are in the works.

#109: Server

by Trelixian on 03/13/2007 14:16

After checking my bandwidth (and dealing with bad lag) I've reset my server for 26 players.

26 might be a bit much, yes.

Anyways, 26 players won´t really be fun, since mapsize is limited in AC.
I´d recommend 8 players max, really.

8 max? Since you're one of the developers, I guess I'll change it again. I have a seeming obsession with massive servers.

#112: Master Mode

by Trelixian2 on 03/14/2007 21:41

I keep master mode enabled, but it pisses me off when someone sets it to private. I tried the following to get back in:

/bind z "connect localhost"; "setmaster 1 mypassword";

Then pressed z. Didn't work. I also tried setting the commands to seperate keys. I've looked through the docs, but can't find a way to make private mode impossible. Is there a way to set a Message of the Day threatening to reset the server if someone puts it in private mode?

Put a sleep command between those two commands maybe?

Mmmh, no, that won't work either.

If a server is in MM:3 (PRIVATE) it will not allow any further connects. Regardless.
It's like a full server.
So you never get as far as authenticating yourself.

If you are donating your bandwidth to the community (by registering on the masterserver) you shouldn't have an issue with people sometimes wanting to have a match w/o anybody else popping on. That is what MM:3 is for.

by fire_net1 on 07/13/2007 04:20

hey im new to this, i was at a friend's house and played AC on his pc(Vista) and loved it so i came home to my windows XP pc and downloaded AC

but whenever i try to join in the multiplayer games around 1min after starting everything just freezes... and stays that way, i cant get to my start menu or the task manager. after a little while the screen will turn to a grey/black... i then have to turn the power off. i've tryed atleast 6 times now and same thing happens every time

im not much of a computer knowledgable person, but i think my computer is more than capable of playing it since i can actually start the thing and move around i just have a problem that freezes it every time

can any one help me out?

I think thats completely rediculous, if I own a server and im paying for it, I should have complete right to play on it WHENEVER I want to... period.

#125: Documentation ?

by Rikiki on 08/21/2007 17:59

Hi,

I'm looking for somme documentation about the basic concepts of the "cubeEngine".
I didn't find anything except "user oriented tutorials".
Where can I find this sort of doc ?
Shall I "decode" the sources by myself ?

Thanks

Rikiki

The Cube Engine source, which is available on SourceForge, is quite well-commented, if I recall correctly. I managed to figure most of it out (except those silly pools) with only basic C++ knowledge, a year or two ago.
